conversation with Yves about love

I guess to understand the context, you would have to understand us. We're snarky. We're cynical. We're lawyers.

Yves: I don't even know what being in a relationship feels like anymore.
Me: Good. It's dumb. Infatuation is the best stage.
Yves: What about true love, Anh? (She said this ironically, not really meaning it.)
Me: I don't believe in true love, never have, never will.
Yves: But you've been in love?
Me: Yes.
Yves: What does that mean, true love?
Me: What DOES that mean? If it means just one love, then no, I don't buy that. I think Mindy Kaling described it pretty well in her book. She says people treat love like a noun when it should be a verb. It's not something you find; it's something you do. Conceptually, I like that. I love Kevin. I think Kevin is worthy and deserving of my love, even if he's not the perfect guy.

Airbrushed Adele

Vogue,

I will never forgive you. What the eff did you do to Adele?? The whole POINT of being Adele is that you don't have to be tiny or gorgeous (which she totally is) when you are that crazy talented. Why would you put this amazing woman on your magazine and not allow her to look as much like herself as possible? She deserves to be on the cover, because she has such a great unique look- that pretty red hair, the signature cat eye and beehive hairstyle. She's glamorous and polished. Her look and style should be the focus, not the warped way you want her to look. Ugh.

 With disgust,
 Anh

saturday wedding

I know you're not supposed to wear white to a wedding, but I love this lace top way too much. Don't worry, I have a champagne color dress underneath.

the how I'm holding up post

Kevin has been gone for almost a month now. He's still state-side, but will be going overseas next week. He sent me a great V-day gift and having been in a long distance relationship for 4 years, I never really had a proper V-day, so nothing to mourn there.

I envisioned my weekends spent in complete solitude. I saw myself reading by day and falling asleep to Hulu at night, but so far, it hasn't been that way at all. Maybe my friends are making an extra effort to include me, since they know Kevin is gone.

Whatever the reason, I find it much easier to say yes than to say no. That's not really a revelation, is it? Maybe if you're like me, you think, "I won't know anyone there," or "I don't usually like __ events." You rationalize a reason not to go when in reality, you get to know people a little better or enjoy yourself in spite of your initial reluctance. So why not? Say yes.

Super Bowl Mustache party

I can never spell mustache correctly. Is it mustache or moustache? I like the extra "o."

The nice thing about working is that you can spend your Saturday sleeping and not really care.

Last week, Kevin's unit graciously sent me a care package although he's the one that's deploying. They filled it with books on job search and coping with deployment. (Not going to lie, I was disappointed that nothing in that package was edible. I thought care package meant cookies??) Kevin told me no one screened the books and some of the spouses received weight loss books! Subsequently, he husbands got an earful when the packages arrived.

My week has been going pretty fast since I started working. I found out the other day that my assistant went to Yale for undergrad. I silently wondered if maybe I should have been assisting him. Isn't that the way these things are supposed to work?

I know most people would think, so what someone went to Yale. George W. Bush went to Yale! The  school prestige must be an Asian thing. I watched an interview with Kevin Lee (that weirdo designer from Real Housewives of Beverly Hills) and he kept talking about how Conan went to Harvard even though that was not the topic of the interview. On that note, I'll leave you a link below to a ridiculous Kevin Lee interview.
